Baroque

Focused especially on carved and polychrome works, this collection forms one of the main attractions of the Manresa Regional Museum. The exhibition illustrates Catalan altarpiece production from the Baroque era with an intense and extensive display of works spanning from the early 17th century to the 18th century. As an introduction to the museum, you can also see some pieces (panel paintings) from the 16th century that show the presence of some Renaissance influences in local artistic production.

Throughout these centuries, Manresa became a center of artistic production with workshops and artists who spread their work throughout the Principality of Catalonia and the Counties of Roussillon and Cerdanya. Joan and Francesc Grau, Antoni and Miquel Vidal, Josep Generes, Pau and Josep Sunyer, Josep Padró… are some of the names of these artists who formed dynasties of artists spanning up to three generations.
