The Jornades d’Art Barroc de Catalunya (Conference on Baroque Art in Catalonia), organized by the Museu del Barroc de Catalunya and the Department of Art History and Musicology at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, will bring together experts from the main Catalan universities as well as from Northern Catalonia.
On October 3rd and 4th, these specialists will reflect on the artistic expressions of the Baroque period in Catalonia.

Manresa will host the first Jornades d’Art Barroc de Catalunya (Baroque Art Congress of Catalonia) on October 3rd and 4th. The initiative is led by the Museu del Barroc de Catalunya and organized in collaboration with the Department of Art History and Musicology at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.
Over the two days, the congress will bring together leading researchers in the field from the main Catalan universities and from Northern Catalonia: the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Universitat de Girona, Universitat de Barcelona, and the University of Perpignan.
The scientific coordination of the congress is overseen by Dr. Francesc Miralpeix i Vilamala, professor in the Department of Art History and Musicology at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.
Several local organizations, including the Centre d’Estudis del Bages and the Col·legi d’Arquitectes de la Catalunya Central, will also take part in the organization.

The congress will begin at the Auditori de la Plana de l’Om, with the more academic lectures, and will continue that same afternoon at the Museu del Barroc de Catalunya, where students and researchers will present their papers.
The first day will conclude with a round table discussion titled “The New Challenge: The Museum in the Territory,” featuring representatives from museums and heritage institutions from across the country.

On Saturday morning, the congress will continue with guided tours of some of the most representative Baroque sites in Manresa: the Sanctuary of La Cova and the Basilica of Santa Maria de la Seu.
The first heritage site, La Cova, will be presented by Bonaventura Bassegoda i Hugas and Joan Bosch i Ballbona. The second, La Seu, will be explained by Illán Holgado i García and Anna Nadal i Enlladó, who will soon publish a book on the Baroque art of the Basilica of La Seu.

Registration for the congress, which is free of charge, can be completed through the museum’s website until September 15th. Interested participants can choose between two options: in-person or online attendance. Those who request it will receive a certificate of attendance.

establishing a new biennial congress

Declared a Museum of National Interest in 2024, the Museu del Barroc de Catalunya has, as one of its main objectives, the aim of contributing actively to academic research. The museum seeks to become a resource equipped to promote and disseminate knowledge about the Baroque period, while also making its collection available to leading research centers to support the study and understanding of Baroque art in Catalonia.
In this context, the museum has created this congress, which will be held biennially, with the goal of establishing itself as a platform for research and the promotion of artistic trends from this period. Each edition of the congress will focus on a specific theme, highlighting the richness and complexity of the Baroque era in Catalonia.
This first edition prioritizes topics related to the current state of research on Baroque art in the country, from the perspective of contemporary academic disciplines, under the guiding theme: “Baroque in the 21st Century” (El barroc al segle XXI).
