The Assemblea de Catalunya (Assembly of Catalonia) was the unitary anti-Franco platform in which political parties, unions, associations and individuals participated with shared objectives summarized in the motto: Freedom, Amnesty and Statute of Autonomy.
This exhibition sets the context and activity of the assemblies of Manresa and Bages. It explains how they worked underground, how they suffered repression, how they gathered thousands of people and how they fought to save the architectural heritage. It explains the struggles in the factories, in the neighborhoods, on the street, from the entities, and from the feminist and ecological movements.
Museu de Manresa, in its desire to participate in the knowledge and divulgation of historical memory, wants to highlight the role of the Democratic Assembly of Bages, which was part of the democratic movement to drive political and personal freedoms from the conviction that the oppressive regime could be overthrown.
The proposal is part of Memòria en Xarxa project, an initiative of the Xarxa de Museus Locals from Diputació de Barcelona that promotes historical memory through the museums of the territory. This year, which is the 50th anniversary of the death of dictator Franco, the project focuses on the Catalan movements during the 1960s which promoted the anti-Franco struggle. At the same time, it highlights the repression suffered by many people who, with courage, challenged the regime.
