Come and discover the latest archaeological findings at the site from the archaeologists who carried out the excavation.

Archaeological site

The site of the Plans de Santa Caterina was located in 2013, by the historian Jordi Piñero Subirana, as part of a research on the ancient roads of the municipality of Manresa. Between 2016 and 2019, surveys were carried out on the ground and some initial excavations were carried out to identify the extension and chronology of the site. The parts of this complex that correspond to the medieval and modern periods were excavated between 2020 and 2021. As explained, that archaeological intervention brought to light remains of the old monastery of Sant Cristòfol, from the 13th century, and of the chapel and farmhouse of Santa Caterina, which were built on top of it at the beginning of the 16th century and which were active until the 19th century.

In addition, in that same excavation, pottery from the Roman period (2nd-3rd centuries) was found, which is why the Manresa City Council decided to schedule a new excavation of the entire area with the aim of comprehensively documenting all possible remains. This latest campaign was carried out between July 2024 and March 2025 and now, with the visits that have been scheduled, the result will be made known, as well as the museumization of the entire complex. Prior to the visits on Saturday, the official inauguration of the site will take place this Friday afternoon with an institutional event.
